This is a great book! It has a substantial amount of information. I love it because I frequently visit the Sierra Nevada foothills and are amazed to find new swimming holes which I have not heard of before. The layout is great, it is easy to search a region, or use the index in the back for specific swimming holes. I'm also impressed with the information, it's basically impossible to get lost when using this book as a guide to the location, and the gps coordinates are a great addition as well. The only reason I did not rate the book 5 stars is because everything is black & white. I guess I expected the book to contain colored pictures & maps because the front cover is in color, but that doesn't affect the usability of the book. I have recommended this book to other adventurous friends and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a collective of swimming holes in California.Product details

Well organized
As advertised very interesting good hidden spots.
This is a glorious book. Gives you accurate directions and locations of the swimming holes. It also gives great pictures and details about the swimming holes such as kid and pet friendly, clothing optional, how big and deep the pools are, and if there are any cliffs to dive off of! I use this on all of my summer adventures!

We do a lot of camping, and we are particularly drawn to rivers as opposed to lakes. This book details many hidden gorges that I didn't know about. Some are literally right next to the crowded (and rowdy) ones that go to. I was able to find quiet, peaceful, private swimming holes for my children to swim in. Because of this year's severe drought here in California, many of the spots were actually dried up or had minimal water. I am hopeful that this winter brings more rain, thus enabling us to discover more spots next summer!
Everyone in Nor-Cal needs this book. It has every swimming hole in California mapped out for you. Some of the directions can be confusing. Especially the Highway 49 bridge chapter. But as a whole this is an amazing book. I hope Timothy releases some new books soon.
This guide plagiarizes Pancho Doll's classic book from 20 years ago. Not just the spots, or Doll's nicknames for them, but even some of the trip descriptions are lifted word for word, sentence for sentence, from Doll's old book. I hope Doll took legal action; he must know about this. Yes, this author adds in a few other spots, but geesh. Write your own book! Another thing he copied from Doll was disorganization. Doll did a nice job with his book, but he was notorious for confusing, unclear directions. This book has the same issue. Despite all this, if you do your homework, you can use this book to find some new spots.
Four star book, but I take off two for copying someone else's work without attribution.
